Barnaby's Story
Barnaby arrived at the sanctuary seven years ago, dropped off by a family who claimed they were "moving." He sat in his carrier for three days at his old home before anyone called us. We were told he was "difficult." What we found instead was a 14-pound gentleman with the softest purr you have ever heard, who simply needed someone to slow down and listen.
He has three chronic conditions that require careful daily management: kidney disease demands a prescription low-phosphorus diet and fluid subcutaneous therapy three times a week. His hyperthyroidism is controlled with a tiny pill hidden in a treat. And his dental disease — well, that's what the current fundraiser is for.
Barnaby spends his mornings on the heated window perch in the sunroom, watching birds with the focused intensity of a documentarian. By afternoon, he has migrated to whoever's lap happens to be available, and by evening, he commandeers the fleece blanket on the couch with absolute authority. He tolerates no negotiation on this matter.
He is not "unadoptable." He is simply home.
