Captain Hook's Story

His name was given by the veterinary tech who amputated his leg after he was found in a fence trap. She said he looked like he was plotting something grand, and she was right.

Captain Hook lost his right foreleg at age two. He spent two weeks in post-surgical recovery learning that three legs are, in his expert opinion, plenty. He now runs faster than most four-legged cats in the sanctuary, has developed an impressive vertical leap, and has absolutely no patience for your pity.

He cannot be adopted into a standard home because his phantom limb sensitivity causes him to strike out without warning when his right shoulder area is touched — not aggression, pure reflex. He has bitten two well-meaning adopters who didn't understand. Here, staff know exactly how to approach him and the whole thing is a non-issue.

He loves fishing rod toys, tunnels, and stealing warm spots from the senior cats. He has never once been caught feeling sorry for himself.
