Ophelia's Story

Ophelia spent the first four years of her life in a hoarding situation. When the rescue came, it took three volunteers and a special trap to get her out. She was so stressed she had pulled out patches of her own fur.

That was eight years ago. Ophelia still does not like strangers. She still disappears when there are loud noises. But she sits at the end of Rita's bed every morning. She has a favorite blanket. She has a window perch she considers exclusively hers. She chirps at the birds outside.

Her IBD requires a hydrolyzed protein diet — most cat food triggers flares. Her herpesvirus means she gets occasional eye flare-ups managed with antiviral eye drops. Her anxiety is managed with daily Gabapentin, which has transformed her life quality from "barely coping" to "carefully content."

She does not want to be adopted. She wants this specific room, this specific blanket, and the certainty that nothing will change. We have promised her that nothing will.
