Periwinkle's Story
Periwinkle is sixteen years old, has a heart condition, kidney disease, and a digestive system that requires careful daily management. She is also, without question, the most serene cat in the sanctuary.
She arrived five years ago when her elderly owner passed away and no family member could take her. She was already twelve, already had her conditions, already had her routines. For two weeks, she sat in a corner and waited. Then she decided Rita was acceptable, and has been sleeping in the crook of Rita's arm every night since.
HCM means her heart beats irregularly and she requires daily cardiac medication. PKD means careful phosphorus management in her diet. The constipation requires lactulose syrup twice daily, which Periwinkle accepts as an indignity she endures in exchange for the heated cat bed.
She does not play. She does not run. She slowly and deliberately relocates between three warm spots throughout the day. Her primary occupation is being soft and existing, and she does both exceptionally well.
