Sugar's Story
Sugar's name was meant to be ironic. She arrived from a hoarding situation at eight pounds overweight and with a blood glucose level that alarmed two separate vets. The treating vet shook her head and said: this cat needs twice-daily insulin injections, a strict prescription diet, and someone with the patience of a saint.
Rita said: we have those.
Sugar now receives her insulin injections every morning and evening with zero drama — she has discovered that the injection is followed immediately by her prescription low-carb wet food, and this is an acceptable trade. Her weight has come down seven pounds. Her glucose is managed. Her personality, however, has only intensified.
She will stand in front of you and yell. Not meow. Yell. She does this when she wants food (always), when she wants attention (often), when she disapproves of your schedule (constantly), and sometimes for reasons known only to Sugar. Her foster volunteer describes her as "the CEO of this household." This is accurate.
